FCII: Our Second Album (& Our First Release)

FCII: We Will Bring You Champions

The Fireside Chats are somewhat proud to announce the release of our second LP, FCII: We Will Bring You Champions. In typical fashion, it was recorded under the duress of yet another internet challenge (the RPM Challenge), where bands record an album in the month of February, 2007. If you have visited this site before, the whole concept probably sounds strangely familiar: Brian signed us up without asking first.

FCII represents a return to roots for the band after the high budget, high tech debut LP, If We Fail, We’ll Call it Art. We decided to leave behind the Pro-Tools and the 72 tracks of intertwined guitar parts that drove Scotte Hello and myself insane. The over indulgence took its toll and we hit rock bottom (I’m trying to follow the Behind the Music story arc here). It was obvious that we needed to regroup, get back to basics and sober up (we did none of this).

I know what you’re saying, this is the point in which a large, bearded, sage of a producer comes in to help the band find themselves again. I’m not going to say that I might not have had a few talks over tofu hotdogs at some of LA’s finest vegetarian bistros, but in the end I had to say “Ricky, Metallica needs you more than we do.”

So, with the challenge thrown down, we promptly got to work, two weeks into the month. The recording was done at Redbank Rehearsal Studios, Apt 4A, and mom’s house. 10 songs in two weeks and taking us up to the final completion time of 1:00AM, February 28th. What truly amazed me was the cavalier attitude of the drummer regarding arrival time even with the deadline coming up within hours. This proved me wrong in that yes, someone truly could care less about this than I do.

So here you have FCII. To those who ask when the first record will actually come out, I do not know, try Napster. As for the title, We Will Bring You Champions, this came from one of the drunkest calls I have ever received from a fellow who just told me how he shitcanned a guitar I lent him (that’s some inside trivia).

And to end, I’d like to quote that man by saying first “We’re Huge in Connecticut” and, “Do you know who I am?”
